Whether you use Jira, Confluence, or any other Atlassian tool—your data deserves to be safe. In this guide, you’ll learn how to enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on your Atlassian account using an Authenticator App. With just a few quick steps, you’ll add a powerful security layer to your workflows.

Why Use 2FA for Atlassian & Jira?

Your Atlassian account likely includes sensitive project data, collaboration history, and admin access to tools like Jira. Enabling 2FA ensures that even if your password is compromised, no one can access your account without your phone-generated OTP code.

Step-by-Step Guide: Set Up 2FA on Atlassian

1. Log into your Atlassian account

Visit atlassian.com and log in with your credentials.

2. Click your profile image and go to “Account Settings”

You’ll be redirected to your Atlassian profile page.

3. Select “Security” from the top menu

Find the Two-Step Verification section.

4. Click “Set Up” or “Enable”

Atlassian will prompt you to use an authentication app.

5. Open the Authenticator App

In the Authenticator App for Atlassian, tap the + button and scan the displayed QR code.

6. Enter the 6-digit code

Once scanned, your app will generate a time-based one-time password (TOTP). Enter it into the field on Atlassian to verify.

✅ That’s it! Your Atlassian account is now secured with 2FA.

Additional Security Tips

  • Save your backup codes—don’t lose them.

  • Use a password manager for long-term storage.

  • Re-scan the QR code if you’re switching phones.
